The GDPR is the new regulation coming into force 25 May 2018 across the European Union. The details of what it is and how to be compliant are discussed here, and why it is a good thing is explained here. In this article, the effect it has on Canada and email marketing will be explored. This is an introduction, as many people in Canada have not heard of GDPR before.
Why the GDPR is a Good Thing
In the previous post, the GDPR was introduced, and what it means for businesses to be compliant. In this article, it will be discussed why the GDPR is beneficial. Many people mostly only irritated by it, in a professional capacity, but personally, it affords EU citizens many new rights and control over their data.
With the GDPR, the balance of power between businesses and the public is made more equal. It ensures that there is clear transparency for people to know what is happening to their data. Not only can people now know exactly what is happening with their personal information, but they can decide exactly what happens to it. There are more details in the section below, but essentially, more control over one’s personal data = good.
