Radar Hill Blog

Give and Take

Girl with giftWe are well into what some consider the real New Years – September, when so many activities and plans start fresh or get refreshed. We might give our time with a new push in our business, or a new volunteer activity. We may take a late vacation or a class to improve our knowledge. For this newsletter, here is our Give and Take.

Radar Hill is Cleaning House

Literally, we are going through our storage room and have unearthed many items that may be useful to someone else. These items are free to any Radar Hill clients, and we hope they can be of use:

  • Ink for a Canon Pixma MP540 inkjet printer
  • 2 Children’s books Fumble the Bumble-Bee
  • Pair of burgundy desk lamps
  • Set of 12 small square tea light candles
  • Accordion file folder
  • 1 Potted plant
  • 1 Craft hobby cutter
  • 1 Presentation binding machine
  • Two flexible USB keyboards
  • Two large glass vases

Drop by and grab what you would like. We have some other odds and ends too numerous to detail here.

Can You Help Us Reach Pamela Anderson?

A friend of ours is trying to reach Pamela Anderson to gain her support on federal animal welfare legislation he is working on. If you have a direct contact with Pamela, please let us know so we can connect them.

Ah, the joys of email. Here is Shawn’s post on How to tell if a suspicious email is legitimate, and Roger’s post that Email just barely works.

Looking for a BlackBerry Torch

Specifically, Shawn is looking for the battery for a BlackBerry Torch. Just after he got a new smartphone (luckily), he was investigating a leak in his clothes washer. He was using his BlackBerry Torch to film what was happening, and as a flashlight, when the leak got larger, fast, really fast. Down went the BlackBerry into the water. The leak was stopped, the BlackBerry was salvaged after sitting in dry rice for a day, but the battery was toast, err, sogged. Shawn would be very grateful to borrow a BlackBerry Torch battery for three days so he can finish getting files off his old BlackBerry.

Server Upgrades

Recently we made a significant investment in a server upgrade. This upgrade was a year earlier than planned. The decision was made when we brought on the very busy VREB.org website.

This server upgrade includes a division of duties between services: websites, email, and databases. Before this upgrade, these services may have run from a single server. This division of services is a significant security update in that if one service comes under attack, the other two are left out of harm’s way and can carry on without interruption. Another big plus is the speeding up of all services. If you would like to find out if your site/email/data is on the new server(s), and the implications for you, please email roger@radarhill.com.
